Pittwater Local Government Area

Pittwater is primarily a residential area of Sydney, with only limited industrial development. The area has evolved from a holiday cottage and rural residential area, and before that from its European settlement history of bushrangers and rum smuggling. The area is characterised by established families 35-50 years and a high proportion of older people over 60 years of age (16.7%). About 22% of the Pittwater population was born overseas with 8.1% born in a non-English speaking country. Pittwater has a very small Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, representing 0.2% of the total population.
